THANKSGIVING Message from our Physician Advisor Leader: Appreciation + Do More

To put it mildly, 2020 has been an eventful year…

Even with many of us sheltering in place and working from home, it feels like we’re busier than ever. It often seems that we only hear the negative, especially from news or social media platforms. The constant pressure of negativity can warp our view of the world leading to a downward spiral of cynicism. This pressure is even greater for our healthcare team that was overstretched, and overstressed before the pandemic. Now many of you have been called upon to give more of yourself than ever before; more time, more personal risk, and more sacrifice of relationships with family and friends.

Thanksgiving is a time to pause, even for a moment, and reflect on the many things for which we are thankful.

I am reminded of an adage of how busy our lives can be; ‘while we call ourselves human beings, we are really human doings.’ After reflecting on the people and things for which we are thankful, let’s commit to changing our mindset. From now on, we will DO more to grow thanks, rather than just give thanks. Actions speak volumes. By doing more and giving more, together we can reverse the downward spiral of division and negativity. If we do more, then after we emerge from our socially-distanced holidays, we will truly have many more things for which to give thanks for.

I ask and challenge you, what are you DOING to grow your thankfulness? What else can you DO to give more thanks?
